For some, getting rid of their automobile is absolutely out of the question. They are driving their dream car, or their first car or the automobile has some other special meaning to them. We understand how you feel here at Vielhaber’s Garage. Our vehicles mean the world to us, too. There will come a point, however, when an engine rebuild is not enough to keep the car running. You will need to have your engine replaced. Here are signs that it’s time for a new engine.
Constant Overheating
Your vehicle’s engine should not overheat constantly. If it does, you may have a cracked engine block. A cracked engine block cannot be repaired, unfortunately. This is the time when you need to drop a new engine into the automobile. It could also be that you have a cracked exhaust manifold or head gasket. These can be replaced. However, to do so requires extensive repairs.
Excess Exhaust
Even if you drive an automobile that has a diesel engine, you shouldn’t see a ton of exhaust smoke flowing out of the tailpipe. If you do, your engine is hemorrhaging one of its crucial automotive fluids. The hemorrhage could be fuel, which creates black exhaust, oil, which creates blue exhaust, or coolant, which creates white exhaust.
Knocking Engine
If your engine is knocking all the time, it’s possible that the rod bearings have worn out. These bearings help the pistons move up and down inside the cylinders. If they are worn, the pistons will bang against the cylinder walls. Replacing the rod bearings is an extensive repair. If you have broken a rod, your engine will stop running and it won’t be able to run at all.
Metal in the Oil
A definite sign that you need a new engine is metal in the oil. In fact, if you have metal in your motor oil, your vehicle will only run for a few more minutes to a few more hours. The metal that is in the oil is actually auto parts. They are disintegrating as the oil flows over them. This cannot be repaired, as you can imagine. Rather, you’ll need a new engine.
Power Reduction
Finally, if you’ve noticed a significant power reduction in your engine, it’s probably reached the end of its life. Your engine is a machine, and all machines have limited life spans. It’s possible that there isn’t one particular thing that is wrong with the engine. Rather, it is just giving up. If this is the case, you need a new engine.
